OUR MISSION:
Our goal is to please you the bidder with an entertaining auction and to please our clients by working to sell each item at a fair value. We have been in the auction business since 1950. Three generations of the Gray family have been calling for bids over the years. We take pride in our knowledge of antiques and collectibles and we implement that expertise to help make our auctions an experience to remember. We pride ourselves on treating everyone with respect and fairness. We want you to keep coming back to our auctions and to refer us to everyone you know who needs a good auctioneer. We appreciate your business!
HOW OUR AUCTIONS WORK:
In case you're not familiar with auctions at all or just haven't been to one of our auctions, here is some information that you will find useful for the day of the sale:
- THE TRAILER - We have an auction trailer that will be set up at the sale site. This is where you will need to register to be able to bid during the auction. You will need to provide us with your name, address ,telephone number, and sometimes additional information (e.g. driver license number) to obtain a number. You will be given a large print number to bid and to track your purchases throughout the day. The trailer is typically open about 2 hours before sale time. The trailer is also the location where you will make payment for your purchases (see PAYMENT below). You can pay for your items at any time throughout the auction or you can choose to wait until the conclusion of the auction or you may choose to make payment when you are ready to leave for the day.
- YOUR NUMBER - The number, which will be on a card, will be your number for the auction. It will be how we will record the sale of any item for which you have the winning bid. At the end of the sale or at the time you need to leave the sale, you will take your number to the trailer for 'check out'. At that time, the record of your winning bids on items will be tallied and you will need to pay for your items in full.
- BIDDING - In order to bid for an item during the sale you will need to signal to the auctioneer or one of the other workers called ringmen to catch your bid. You may signal to bid by raising your hand, raising your number, or some other signal. Please remember to gesture in an obvious manner and don't be afraid to raise your voice for attention. Sometimes in a large crowd with a lot of movement it is difficult to see everyone, especially when the crowd is spread out. - Also, beware of waving to friends or swatting flies as you may end up with a lamp you really didn't want ....... just kidding.... we will try not to let that happen to you - Seriously, though, when you're interested in an item be ready to bid. Try to listen for what the bid is currently and to what the auctioneer is calling for.
- IN CASE OF A TIE - In some instances one auction worker will have caught the same bid from one person while another caught the same bid from another and the auction crew thinks that they have the same person's bid. If it happens that an item is sold at that time, we try to make it as fair as we can. Normally, we will open up the bid for only those 'two' winning bidders and the highest of those two people will be the winner. Sometimes, one of the bidders will relent to the other bidder. In any case, we want to make it right and handle the issue in the fairest possible way. Please bear with us as catching bids from multiple workers in an active crowd is more difficult than it looks.
PAYMENT - Cash is preferred, checks are acceptable depending on location and customer history, and credit or debit cards are NOT ACCEPTED. Items of larger cost sometimes require a line of credit from a bank. If you have any questions about what may or may not be accepted, please feel free to call ahead of time.
- IN ALL CASES, PAYMENT WILL BE DUE AT TIME OF CHECKOUT -
- BRING A CHAIR - Plan to come and spend all day with us. We'll sell until there's no more to sell, everyone goes home, or everyone runs out of money. Typically, we'll have our auctions at the owner's property. In some instances, we'll have a sale at an indoor venue. Rain or shine we'll keep on auctioning!
- LUNCH IS USUALLY AVAILABLE - At most of our auctions lunch will be available for purchase. The food available varies, but usually consists of anything that can be grilled on location. No need to leave for lunch - bid while you're ordering your food!
